If it moves and is not suppose to, Duct Tape.

If it doesn't move and it's suppose to, WD-40.

In your case, Super Glue.

plumbing shop dumpsters are many times full of good things for salvage, and because all their customers dump there too they usually do not mind salvage, and even encourage it....b

And I would guess, some less than desirable things too.  Huh? Undecided

this might sound stupid to some but i actually just use the metal ones so easily to get with wing nuts and very cheap, also no ill affects to the detector, try it before leaving negative comments it really does work fine Wise

A Metallic Nut and Bolt can be Relevant . They play with the detectors Discrimination.  They Distort the Coil Field.  With a VLF Detector your settings can work around that some.  On a PI detector it can Blind  you from seeing some Targets.

On a PI detector that you are building & designing yourself, the metal hardware will change the CEMF pulse fall to baseline time enough that smaller targets will be harder if not impossible to detect. If they are made of a ferrous metal, the smaller silver, gold, copper, etc. objects might get 'masked' out. Where as if they are made of non-ferrous metals, it actually might help as long as they don't cause an 'undershoot of the falling CEMF. Teach Wise

Update: Here is a diagram of what I mean.

A bad day at gold prospecting or metal detecting is better than a good day at work.

Not to mention that if it's not a motion detector it will scream at you all the time.

A whole thread on "nuts" Cool!   Kidding asside.... McMasterCarr.com is a good source for assorted specialty items like nylon hardware. They also have any material you might want like stainless, brass, delron, in round and flat stock. They have one of the best, imho, search engines on their web site.
