Hey all,
Just got done trying out my pinpointer I finished this morning and it works great. The tone is very plain and it starts picking up around an 1 1/2 inchs ( shows a green light  and turns red when you touch the coin) Your going to laugh at how much It costs to make.
 stud finder   $5.00
pvc pipe          .25
12 inch phone line  0.00
( came in last house phone we bought)
1-6 year old trac-phone 0.00
( pulled out of buddys garbage)
I started by opening the stud finder. The circuit board was sensor ( coil) , I drilled two small holes in the top end, sauldered the phone line wires in, took the cell phone apart, took out the antenna(flat piece of copper) folded in half to fit thru the pvc pipe. Cut the pipe to length( 5 inches) frd the wire thru, sauldered the ends of wire to this, pushed excess wire and antenna into pipe sealed the end with a pvc plug, notched out the cover of stud finder to fit the pipe, superglued pipe in cover, put it back together, works great...
