Hi Guys

Here is a simple to build counter, ideal for coil winding. This counter uses common components so no need for a PIC programmer, the down side is that there in no memory and it only counts up not to mention that all the 7 seg disps are always on. Note that R8 is optional and used only if your power supply is more than 5v, the triggering is done with a read switch but any other device such as a proximity switch, photo cell and IR can be used. The PCB that I posted has not been tested yet so there may be some errors on it however the prototype works well and so should the PCB version.
A 5v cell phone charger should be good to drive the counter, if your charger is more than 5v a resistor (R8) will be needed in the event that you do not need R8 just bridge it. I may decide to build a digital version of this counter in the future if I do it will have. Count up, Count down, Memory with backup battery, Relay for auto start/stop and an to beep once the counter has stoped I may even go as far as place a broken wire detector on it, mind you that would be an over kill for the weekend detector coil builder but I guess still nice to have.

Where have you been hiding, mate? Everyone on GG&T is wondering what you've been doing? And now, we see.

Nice project for coil winding.

OK I see that the components list did not come out like I'd expected and I forgot to post the schematic so here they are.

And that it was, we did not have all the adds nor the graphics that we have now, one page of text goes fast even with half of that. I'm busy playing with a message box that works on the net, a bit like a chat box just that it works in the command prompt window, the nice thing is that only the people that I will want to talk to will be able to connect to it, and I wont have all these adds to bother me. When I get it to work I'll send you a file to launch the app.

Hey X......good to see you posting.   I saw the post title and was wondering why anyone would want to build something to count rainy days......but then I figured in your part of the world you'd probably run out of fingers  and toes before you ran out of rainy days.    Grin

Joking aside, it looks like a neat little project.
