i saw that Project now thats not the hobby Project .. old man shared his made metal dedector circuit and other schemas .( i think somethings wrong with that circuits mybe thats not original circuits).  thats the turkish writings not romanian.. this Project not working properly ..  This is a table-top detector does not have enough land to be used as a design . Wink   this is not stable at the lands with this circuits..   not stable ..

I have since moved on to more elaborate projects as my skill level and knowledge have improved. Already built the surf pi.next I am cloning the garret xl500 sea hunter. Then unto the tesoro golden sabre with notch control.

What do you mean by VLF. 4khz?,7khz,12,16,32, maybe with multiple sampling?  By the way,I built the volksturm sm+geb metal detector. Works great. It operates at 8khz(32.768khz quartz divided by 4). Would this be considered VLF. I think the Garrett sea hunter is a VLF pulse. Completed a layout of the compass 77b automatic(100khz), I think I'll build it just to see if the schematic on the net is accurate. I need to find a easy way of housing my dd coils. Mixing epoxy etc. Ain't nice. Does anyone know of a prefabricated dd coil housing sold on the web?

VLF stands for very low frequency a PI detector is not a VLF, a PI detector can work from 90Htz up to 1Khz but a VLF detector is normally in the rage of 4Khz to 16Khz. There are many ways to make a coil housing even with a frisbee, I posted the way that I did my coils but there are simpler and cheaper ways of doing it, if you do a search for coil housings you will find quite a bit of info on here.

Thank you Xavier. Nice to know that someone else can speak the language of metal detectors.  I plan to test my recently completed surf pi on the beach this week. This beach has never been hunted so I am a looking forward to some good finds. I will post some pics soon.

This beach has never been hunted so I am a looking forward to some good finds. I will post some pics soon. seems that Garret did have a sea hunter VLF tr, but later came out with sea hunter pulse which was the xl500 operating at 400hz,that would put it right in the range you described>90 to 1khz. This would still be considered in     the very low frequency range. The real difference is in the principle of operation.

Just looked at your self made coil.great work. think I try this method.the finished coil looks great but it is not DD. Its a monocoil for pulse detector.

Yes that coil was used on a PI detector but you can make any type of mold by using the same method.

I think that I must explain to you the difference between PI and VLF, PI runs on a pulse but people say that their detector runs at a frequency of xxx this is correct but also misleading because we really should say PPS (Pulse per second) a VLF detector has a sine wave, sine waves never stop unlike a pulse detector, this is why we can detect the change in the sine wave when our coil is over metal, another thing that you will want to know is that with a sine wave it is very easy to tell the difference between a ferrous and non ferrous metal because of the way the wave is modified by that metal. A ferrous piece of metal will increase the amplitude of the sine wave where a non ferrous piece of metal will decrease that sine wave and by simply measuring it we can tell the difference. This makes it very easy for use to have a dual audio detector giving a sound of 1.2Khz for a non ferrous piece of metal and a sound of 800Htz for a ferrous one. Unfortunately this is not the same for a PI detector and it become very difficult to determine the different metal in the ground.

And to think all this time I have been ignorant as to the difference in operating principles of pulse induction versus induction balance.  Thanks for the info. Always helps when one is willing to share as you have. Currently trying to etch a PCB using alternative chemical consisting of a mixture of HCL and hydrogen peroxide
Ice. On this island need to improvise a whole lot. The local RadioShack is a waste of time. They never stock anything relating to electronic hobbyist. Blah.

What you need to get is ferric chloride, you should be able to get some at the sewers water refinery if there is one where you are.
