Blowing up the workshop is not on the cards. Need to find some ferric chloride.

Grin Grin Grin glad you see it that way mate, no need to tell you that the right acid mixed with the wrong chemical can make a very large BOOM (that's how dynamite was made)
Do you have a water treatment plant where you are? if so I'm sure that they will be able to supply you with a bit of ferric chloride acid, remember to dilute the acid in the water not the other way round and to do it slowly (this only applies to very concentrated acids) if you add the water to the acid you will have an explosion and we would not want that to happen to you. Also remember to wear safety gear.

I can order some through a local supplier. Still need to find an easy and fast way of making search coil housing for DD coils that looks half decent. The process you used is excellent but seems like a lot of work. Frisbees are for throwing around at the beach or park.  Asking for ferric chloride at the water treatment plant might raise some local security eyebrows. Here are some pics. I built the Heathkit gd348, performance is quite good, very stable, nice simple detector, fun to build. Its the first pic. That's my pi on the TV. The others are work in progress.
