Before you posted this did you consider doing a search? There are no shortage of threads and topics already going about building White's search coils. Try that before you wait for an answer.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Hello . Like GD said search our forum here . And you will find the number one "first rule" of winding your own search coil is you must measure the dc resistances of your existing stock coil you ae using right now !! The transmit coil winding and the recieve coil winding ,right it down on paper . Then proceed to calculate using coil winding formulas for the wire gauge and diameter and number of turns . And you will need a plastic coil form from a vender like Hays electronics or make one yourself .
HH...... Great.....Eugene

You must have a scope to make searchcoil, the frequency of the oscilator must be in resonance with the tx coil and tx capacitor, and also with the rx coil and rx capacitor. You have to see also on the scope the phase shift between the tx signal and rx signal for correct discrimination. The coils in DD form must be placed and fixed correctly to have the minimum signal at the first rx amplifier. İt is not so easy.
