Hello Nad . I should have a schematic of the 1220 also . If you like , take one photo of the circuit board and post it here . If you give a little more information we might be able to help you fix it . Sounds like the voltage was reversed or the capacitor exceeded the voltage rating . Radio Shack should have most electrolytic capacitors in stock .................Regards..........Eugene52

Eugene,I am the last person in the world to work on anything electric.I am famous for my ability to mess things up..For example a Fisher T20. Not sure which is positive or negative. If I guess,?? Gone to detector heaven.  Have a same circuit , made with all mil spec components, have never tried to assemble the items to the board.  I would throw the unit away, except I have a 4 inch coil, seven foot cord. Made into a wader, it will tell me if a 30 year old spot is littered with rings. Cool summer, worst comes to worst, I'll scoop the bottom with a shovel and dump into a hardware cloth stariner..Law of averages sys , a certain percentage might work. At 70 a lot of work, cordially NAD

Hello nad , I am in Southern California for the summer . So if your close to L.A. give me a call or send an email . It can be fixed while you wait . I am also sure you will get more responses from Forum members who might live closer to you . Either way , you will have your machine fixed soon . Keep us posted !!

Best Regards..............Eugene52

I have two private swimming holes, a stream where WWi troops used to wash up after playing war games, and a stream where Civil War troops  washed up.. Latter two on private land also. Both would be day trips from here... My idea was to scope each out with the 1220 as a probe..  If anything came up, go for a new under water detector.  I wanted the lenght due to possibility of holes in one area..Will have to work with stream at my back, more fun to know a drop off is out in front as opposed to underfoot.Come to think of it, need to check eBay for life jackets. Maybe find a GPR unit, so I can dig that pesky Mastodon up.Molar in stream, rest may be in bank.. Smiley.........cordially Nad

Nad,

If you need your stuff worked on, I can do it.   Also, if anyone out there needs anything done electronics wise (designed, fixed, tested, schematics, built from scratch) for CHEAP (yes you read right).  I have my own lab and thousands of parts/chips/boards/cables.  I have  30 years of electronics experience, a BS in Electronics Technology, and am a former Electronics Instructor.  A lot of people charge a fortune for their skills and time, but it doesn't have to be that way.  Back to the 1960's prices or free in some cases with me.  Just pay shipping...email me. dpickwell at yahoo dot com

I'm quite certain that being "dead or alive" will matter to the person doing your repairs. However, the dead generally work much cheaper and much slower.

Homefire, his request sort of has me worried about Zombie repair technicians now.
