Please don't confuse the issue. ALL detectors have voltage "stabilizers" inside. That's not what he is asking about.

there is a word THE CHARGER - THE charger stabilizer. I wrote CHARGER -! did not mean ANY or SOME.
THE charger stab is NOT a rule to stay in ALL detectors.

is it clear for you GoldDigger? why you write i confuse the issue?

Most people call that a voltage regulator and ALL detectors have them. Period.

His XL 500 or what ever uses three 9 volt batteries.  VLF  detector.   I think it's a cousin to the AT detectors.

Hi this is Conan the one that started this Subject Both electronic wise are identical the XS and the XL VLF Models
Both use the 3 nine volt battery set up
One has the Long shaft set up that is why it has the L after the X for XL500
And the other has the short shaft mainly for Diving and has the mounting for the shaft on the control box
Again that is why it has the S after the X for XS500
I have the XL500 and my diving friend has the XS500 here in Australia
Both very popular and Famous used by well known divers back on the day
Both me and my friend have the Original Garrett 110 volt charger with the output of 24volts AC
And are looking to get the Garrett original Vehicle car charger to have another more convenient power source
When you are out away from electrical power sources other then a vehicle if we can't get one we have to know
what to replace it with that will give you the same power etc
I hope this has cleared any confusion and misunderstanding
All I need to be certain is someone out there with the original Garrett Car charger with the part number 16079
Thanks for everybody trying to Help
Cheers
I hope this clears any confusion

I know the logistics of dealing with a US based company can be daunting so that is why I offered to help.

The XL500 Sea Hunter went through many transitions. Mine uses 8 Sub-C batteries which had the added benefit of allowing neutral buoyancy without adding weights. That gives my system a 12v dc power source once charged and yours gives 24.6v dc after charging. The 9v NiCad battery is capable of 8.2v dc when fully charged - not a full 9v dc as you might think. That has me thinking they may have used a miniature switch mode power supply to reach the required charge voltage which is higher than 12v dc. I'll find out for certain on Monday when I speak again with Tech Support. If you were to plug in a 12v dc car charger, you would actually drain your NiCad batteries rather than charge them. That makes it vital that we find out what Garrett has to say. I'm looking forward to solving this one for you, mate.

I get to say "mate" since I lived in Perth for a number of years. I never picked up an accent (to my ears) but being retired navy and calling each other "shipmates" made it easier for me to adopt that term of friendship.

very quick decision if you have Garrett 110V AC to 12V DC charger and your level in electronics is low.

Sometimes you also don't have to contradict a moderator just for the sake of it. We have corresponded by PM. So your point is moot.

And there are more than two battery configurations. Mine has 8 Sub-C NiCads.
