I didnt know they made ceramic caps in that high of values.

If they're over 30uf, look to see if there is a color band on one end. If so, that will be the negative side of an electrolytic. But you'll have the schematic by then. But I'd replace them no matter how they test because they are eventually all going to fail. The paper caps only last perhaps 20 years at most.

There are 2 1000uf 35v cardboard, plus 4 high voltage caps that look to be cardboard as well but they are wrapped in tape, so im not sure what the values are yet I was hoping I wouldnt have to unsolder the transformer wiring as it is through the chassis. But it looks like I will probably have to anyway. I will try to wait for the manual to get here before I tear into it.

Good thinking. I wish you success.

By the way, where are you located?

I was going to offer to have a look at it for you but we won't be over that way until spring at the earliest.

Thanks for the offer, Hopefully I wont need to take you up on it. Some of the impetus behind me wanting the oscilloscope was that I wanted to build a pi machine this winter with my boy. I was going to go for the surf master but am leaning towards the hammerhead now. So I am hoping to get this machine up and running fairly soon. If you happen to be in the area I will buy you a cup of coffee and we can bs.

Many thanks To GoldDigger!! I now have a working scope, ended up replacing 1 transistor , 1 zener diode, and 4 electrolytic capacitors.

I did nothing, really. Just pointed him in the right direction and shoved hard! He did it all by himself.

Oh BTW I thought Id toss this into the mix, entire project just shy of 30$ : ) came in 10$ under budget  Grin although I will probably spend that on some more replacement caps and a can of contact cleaner, some of the pots are dried out.
