Hi Everybody.
I need the power supply schematics for an Eagle spectrum.
I need to know if there is a voltage regulator and the working voltage value of the power supply capacitors.

I try to modify the 4 C size battery pack to a 10 AA battery pack, and hopefully gets an hour extra operating time. i could I guess pull the detector apart and have a look myself but I would like to avoid it if I can help it.

You would be wasting your time. The voltage is not what gives you more time it is the amp hour rating of the batteries that does. The C cell batteries have 4 time nominal amperage over the AA batteries as a rule. However, there is another option. There are some small footprint lead acid gel cells that will fit in place of the C cells. Look for a 6 volt gel cell using Google.

If you cannot find one to fit, get a flat one and Velcro(tm) it to the side of your box. The lead acid batteries typically have a rating of 20 or more times that of an alkaline series of 4 C cells.

Thanks Golddiger1950,
i connect 2 lots of 5 in series cells of 1.2v 3000ma in parallel. and it just fit in the battery compartment.
that will give me the extra Amp power but the voltage also is over 6v for some reason, (even 5x1.2v= 6 on paper) and it may damage the detector if there is no voltage regulator in it.

Hello nickel_n . It sounds like you had the exact problem as I did with my Whites . It would work perfect for only 2 hours !!! GoldDigger is correct !!!! Do not use 10 AA cells on your battery pack !!! You are safer to use a rechargeable 6 volt battery .So 4 "C" cells "new" reads 6.36 volts DC on my Whites "C" battery pack !!! The Whites rechargeable pack are rated at 1.2 volts each and I measured around 5.44 volts on a full charge . Check your battery voltage before you do anything . I need you to e-mail me so I have your e-mail address to send the schematics !! Others can comment here also !!!

Both Eugene and myself are giving you good advice here. Do not use that configuration because the over voltage will damage your machine. Please just use a 6 volt high capacity gel cell if you really need that much amperage. Lead acid gel cells have the highest capacity of any other battery economically available and they are spill proof. There are fuel cells out there which will make lead acid batteries look rather pale and some very expensive lithium dioxide cells too but the gel cell remains the undisputed king of battery capacity.

Try a single thin model attached to the detector body. For an increase in weight of maybe 20% you will have a 20 times increase in available power. Not only that but the gel cell has a discharge curve that is hard to beat. When they top off (fully charged), they are normally around 7.2 volts unloaded (tested with a meter only) and 6.6 volts with a load (your detector plugged in and switched on). They normally do not drop below the 6 volt level until they are at the 60% of capacity and then remain above 5 volts until nearly discharged (at around 17% capacity). Your machine is designed to run at a minimum of 5 volts. Recharge the gel cell and off you go again. Good for another day of hunting.

Thank you both for the advice.
I will go at RadioParts on Saturday and have a look there batteries.
It just that is a lot more convenient if I use the same type of batteries on all my detectors. Eliminates the chance to be caught out without fully charged batteries and also to use more than one type of wall or car charger...

Unfortunetly i got busy with work no time to play with the Eagle.
just few hours free on Saturday morning to go detecting.
I will post the solution/results as soon as i got them.
will be great to get an extra hour or two detecting of the set of batteries

Hello nickel_n . You are Welcome , glad you recieved the schematics !! Anyway when you get a break in your schedule we should be here to help , if you need it ? You never know it may run for up to "4 hours or more" on a full charge , just buy the [6 volt] and the one with the most [AH] ampere-hours you can find .
