What amazes me though Paul is that nobody sofar has shown any interest in what you have accomplished . Do they rather spend $150. on some nailfinder than on a realy working and sensitive pinpointer  ?   Beats me !   Cornelius

Hi Paul & Cornelius  , My Internet has been down since Friday, I just got it back working today, so have just read about this probe. I shall definitely try out the ferrite rod idea, as I've said before I converted a home built PI detector into a Pinpoint probe and wound my own small coil, this has a depth of field of about 2 1/2 inches. If I use a ferrite rod with coil instead, it looks like I may get a better depth. I can't wait to try it, I must search my bits box.

Thanks for that Paul & Cornelius

What kind of schematic do you need ? Just wind a coil around a ferrite rod and you are done . ( the resistance should be the same as the coil you are using now  . It should be a PI detector , the ferrite rod should be insulated by using some insulating tape  . )  Cornelius

I need to try this one on my Garrett Sea Hunter 200 Mod.   Might find the nuggets in the cracks! Pray

Got the timing down to 10us and this may be my ticket.

I would use it as a unit to it's self! Crazy

I used the ...PW Sandbanks PI detector circuit... for my pin point probe, because the board was narrow. The details can be found on...

...under Metal Detecting Projects.
I did not use it from choice, I originally built it as a detector then modified it to make my probe and wound my own coil.
I did not make any notes of the changes I made unfortunately ... Sorry ... and I am not suggesting its the best circuit to use.

All the best Mike.

Hi, sadly, no it won't work on the GTI2500.
It needs to be a "Pulse induction" type of machine.

For those of use who dont know, besides an old AM radio where would you get ferrite rod, cheap? And where is the rest of the story--it must be a different post where it shows how to make it. I google'd ferrit rod and there is a lot of it out there from mild to wild. The unit looks pretty neat, from what i can put together, it sounds like you wire it up to your detector like a small coil? Only its a PP.. Do you switch the coils, when you need to pin-point or do you put it on a spare detector. And I may be missing something, are you looking for small metal and this is an easier way than using the big bulky detector......Im all for sitting on my ars--and detecting.
Im also new to the forum and just wanted to drop in and say hi and of course ask questions, Looking forward to meeting new people and injoying the information provided in the forum,,I do tend to collect Pin pointers, I have 3 already and am not opposed to one more.
