If you guys can find directions by the stars you are doing very well.  That is a highlly useful tool!  There are a mass of humanity out there that can't even do that!  I used to know the skies and star names and constellations without using a reference.  Didn't stay deep enough in the hobby and have forgotten a lot over the years.   Angry
When I was in South Viet Nam, I should have been able to see a good portion of the southern skies, but I have no memory, at all, of those skies now!  Should have been able to see the Magellanic Clouds and Southern Cross from there, but my memory is blank...    Thumbs Down!   I imagine they are beautiful!

Indeed, I am amazed at the number of people who don't even realize that the constellations change with seasons.  Still if  you can find your way by the stars you are ahead of the rest.  But that's another subject altogether.  I think I would like to do some detecting by the full moon Kiss

Here in South Africa I can always find north in the morning the sun rises in the east and at night we have an arrow in the sky that points to the north I did try to take a photo of it but my cell phone cant do it so I will have to get new batteries for my camera then I'll post it for you, perhaps you can see it in your night sky too.

Where I am at, warm snow blows in from the west, cold snow blows in from the east, north and south are just easy after that Smiley

When I was in boy scouts I could list all the important constellations out there....now I see the big dipper and call that an accomplishment Smiley

Patrick F. Mcmanus's 'Get Lost' is an important read. You will learn the 'Modified Stationary Panic' so that search teams will at least be looking for you in the right county. Cheesy Cheesy
