It doesn't have the depth. What it DOES have is the ability to reject paper clips, hairpins, small nails and STILL pick tiny gold chains! You sometimes have to search in all metal with today's detectors to pick up gold chains and end up with a pouch full of these trash objects. It will still pick up bolts and larger iron.

The ability to dsicriminte those but to be still sensitive for gold is remarkable. I wouldn't have expected this with such a vinateg machine! Thanks for sharing!

It does this automatically by the very nature of it's circuitry. I found two gold chains at the beach and I thought it was a wad of moss! They were entwined in the moss.

I hope I'm making myself clear here. Almost ALL BFO's have a null(where there is no beat) and by turning the dial further ferrous objects will decrease in sound and non-ferrous targets will increase with a faster beat. If the ferrous object is large enough, it will increase in the number of beats. Thus, nuts, bolts, washers, pocket knives, etc. will be detected. It's the tiny ferrous objects that aren't large enough to override the null that decrease in beats. These are the objects that so plague vlf all-metal. So it's a natural for tot-lotters, because these places are plagued with hairpins, paper clips, tiny nails. You STILL have to put up with the foil, bottle caps, etc. But you're liable to find a gold chain or tiny gold ring to make up for all that.

Thanks for the info slingshot. My first detector was a BFO machine, 1972. I never really learned to use it well and had no support system like forums &c to help. This is the type of detecting that I  like to do,  find big stuff without being bother by wee bits.  Smiley
