WOW, another detectorist + car enthusiest! Nice '65 GTO! I just helped a friend build a '66 GTO convertible clone from the frame up. It has a stroked 462 making 620hp, he won 1st place at the Pittsburgh World of Wheels show this year. Pro touring suspension, Tremec 5 speed, 4 wheel discs, Moser rear end, TruTrac, new everything.... 2 years worth! Here is a link to the project site starting form the beginning.

I'd like to see pictures of your project....

Hotrod,
Your 53 is really, really nice but I love that 66 GTO! I am a Pontiac fanatic! If you care to do some looking here is a link to a thread I have on the Performance Years forum. It chronicles my restoration from day 1 to the present. You will have to register with PY to view the pictures but it is free and just like registering here.

My car is now almost to the paint stage. I still need to finish the A/C under the hood and get the hydraulics for the top installed. I hope to have paint on her by mid-summer.
I need to take some more pics of the car but I have been real busy running two jobs and haven't had the time to even pull it out of the shop. Maybe it will be nice this weekend and I can get her out in the fresh air.

Hotrod,
I went through the 669 pictures I have on file and picked these three. The first is of the powder coated frame with the drivetrain installed. Second is after I rehung the hood and started to align the panels and the third shows the 2 1/2" Pypes exhaust being installed.
It has been a long process to get to this point but I am getting closer every day!

I have a 64 GTO, a wife and a new hobby called metal detecting. I was thinking of loading my detector in my GTO trunk and after a car show search the area. Best of luck on your finds, what engine does your GTO have?

64s are sweet cars. Is yours a tri-power car? Mine has the 400/4barrel. I hope to get the car painted in the next month or two.

If it hadn't been for a new years greeting I would have never come back to this site. Computer problems on end really messed up my saved websites. I do not like Windows 10. Anyway, it is now almost 7 years later and a lot has happened in that time span. I finished the 67 GTO for the most part but anyone who has owned an old car will tell you they are never 100% done. There is always something to do. I recently picked up my next project. It's a 1950 Pontiac two door fastback. I won't be doing a frame off restoration on this one anytime soon. I will get it road worthy and drive it just like it looks now with the exception of new glass and a restored interior.
Here's a picture of the finished 67 and a couple of the 50. The 67 picture was taken Christmas day 2016. I told my wife not to smile so folks wouldn't think we were enjoying ourselves too much.
