What are rivets usually from? I've found two, are they related to the civil war?

Hay MI,

They can be from leather stuff like holsters, belts
horse tac. One of those is a piece of broken "j" hook.

There wer many other uses also.

They are not always CW related.

That can usually be guessed at pretty good using
other things found to date them. They are hard
to just by their selves.

I am not a real experienced relic hunter, so if I
am wrong, or someone has somethin to add.

Please feel free to comment,

Tabdog

It appears that the top is a little bigger than the bottom side.  From what you have told me, I don't think they are from the Civil War.  I found them in a modern field that used to have a old farm on it.  I believe that farm was there around.....1900? I found an old monkey wrench, and a Model A spark plug, maybe about 90-100 years old.  Those were the only two items I had to guess on for its time period.

That is funny.

I got an old munkey wrench and a model T
ignition contact. That is not the right name.
But I can not think of it right now,

Wow, that is kind of coincidence.  It was kind of a miracle that the Model A spark plug was not damaged, seeing that it was only about two inches in the ground from the farmer working up the ground.

I found an old cast iron oven door, it has a eye in the middle and rays protrude from all sides.  It is detailed good, but it is probably good that I take it and put it to a wire brush.

tabdog, Christian;

It is... its a Torx, and very popular these days. I heard, few years ago, about a hoard of silver ones (neck size) being found with a locator, in England. The experts suggested it was an offering to Odin or ? and dated to around the time of Boadicea.

On a more recent note, my grandma told a story, about when she lived in the Ozarks, where such beliefs survived, that there was this lady who wore one on her ankle, to take away her rheumatism pain.... one day, she was standing in the doorway, watching a lightning storm and a bolt zapped the screen door! When she came to, the copper bracelet was vaporized, she had a burn ring around her ankle, BUT her rheumatiz was gone.

Bad way to cure rheumatism, it would be easier to take the bee sting treatment.

Now THAT might work as an LRL device!

Brian AKA goldigger (never stand in the door....)
