The raised pattern on the sphere reminds me of stylized flames which are sometimes placed on the celestial pearl being held by a Chinese dragon figurine. If you Google images of 'celestial pearl dragon', you'll see what I mean.

Enameled Chinese Health balls (Baoding balls) that have lost the enamel.   The enamel went between the "raised" areas.

Yeah BA's right. I never knew meridian balls came in enamel, till I ran a search; I've only seen stainless steel/chromed ones.

I thought of a really cool marble when i first saw it.  I would have been the coolest girl in school about 30 years ago if i had one like that in my marble pouch.  LOL Shocked
