haroldnjoni, Nice photo of the exposed gold. I would think the collector value as a mineral sample is higher than the gold melt price. Is that true?

gambol1, yes in theroy the minerals still locked up in the matrix has a higher value then the metals themselves. We have many specimens that are really beauties to look at and we avoid crushing these as our goal is to help preserve Gold Ores as in the past most have been destroyed just to get to the Gold. We do crush alot of ore when it is holding just a little Gold and do not feel that is shamefull. Selling on ebay these specimens bring in some cash but nothing serious. It does help out on paying for going back to the vein in order to gather more specimens but most of all the buyers are happy and give positive feedback over what they had purchased. I am sure alot of these specimens are high dollar specimens but we really have no way to go about selling other then ebay and word of mouth. Even though it appears there is many tons of Ore in this vein I still work a full time job but if I ever had a chance to just mine and sell I would drop my job in a heart beat. I will learn the ropes someday on how to make big profits off these specimens but untill then I just set here and enjoy seeing colorfull specimens in all shapes and sizes. Lots of nights I can not sleep as I always wonder what the next find will be but I do not mind. We are sure we could open a full scale mine but the cost going into that is far more then we could bare at this time. Most of the specimens we have sold have only went for the $20.00 starting bid we impose and those specimens are from 1 ounce to 3 ounces in weight. At least others who do not prospect get a chance to hold and admire Gold Ore specimens normally most would not be able to afford due to the high prices required to purchase. I hold no regrets over this ordeal and my desire to make new discoveries like all prospectors desire gives me the drive to just be happy even if at this point in time we are not rich. I do know my boat is just off the coastline and it will not be long before our ship comes in!
