::)Greetings from Southern Ontario,,looking for a new hobby,,and think metal detecting might be alot of fun. I live very close to the shorline of Lake Ont,,and spend most summers on Lk Erie,,as well r dogs and I enjoy walks anywhere their r few ppl..Grand river etc..Not that I,m anti-social,,just like to experiance the wilderness with very little conversation,,n no distractions with my pets..Am interested in buying a good detector,,that wont break the bank,,easy to operate,,n as liteweight as possible, cos I,m no heavyweight..Any suggestions on where to look and what kind of equipment to purchase..Need to give Santa my wish list soon? Thanks in advance..

From Tennessee. Don't know much about detectors available in Canada but if you want something for the types of places you are talking about, Bounty Hunter on the lower price range, then maybe the Technetics, Or the Tesoro. The Tesoro Compadre comes to mind for the weight and simple operation as well as being a good detector to start with. Lots of people use them as thier backup detector after the have upgraded to a more expensive machine. Hope this helps. Just my two cents. Grin

Greetings from British Columbia , Yes treasure hunting is fun and very addictive . I bought a ace 250 back in august in a combo pack . Things i have learned are , Canadian money reads the same as iron on an id type machine so u have to dig everything. If i had to buy another detector i would choose one with numeric id and a double d coil, as i like to detect all year long the at pro would be my next choice just because its water proof . Bottom line is i would take coins with you to test any machine just to see how it works. Unless you wanna dig everything.

I agree with Pete that the numerical ID would be great to have. I have the Ace 350 and would love the numerical ID, because it would help ID targets better plus I would love to have waterproof of the AT Pro!!!!!

I have been researching and everone is saying to get a good land and sea detecter you have to spend a lot of money i have never had a detector and maybee selfish but i want an all around product i can enjoy so it pays itself off and i gain more experiance

There getting better at multi tasking but still not there.
