Go Up Go Down

It was a rainy morning that dried up for the afternoon treasure hunt. I was unaware that the sound of a huge metal object would turn out to be the find of a lifetime. I thought I had found yet another cola can in the tot lot I was hunting. Photo 1, shows the lot as I was getting ready to leave.

The second and third images are of the chest I found buried in the sand at 18 inches depth and later opened. After I picked it up to look at it and put it back down for a photograph. Spreading a black cloth down, I opened it to find a note from Francis and Melody, obviously two pirates with a treasure to hide. Inside were coins from all over the world. These world travelers must have been very busy.

I contemplated taking it with me but thought better of it. I added two $2.00 coins I had just found to their booty and dropped it back into the ground where I assume it either remains today or has been found by another detectorist. Knowing it belonged to a couple of kids, I just couldn't bring myself to remove it.

Picture 2 below shows the booty, as found when I opened it and the note left inside by the notorious pirates of the street where I found it.

The last picture is of the reburial site. The GPS coordinates? Sorry, I will die with that information.

Thinking about those two playmates has given me lots of quality daydreaming time. It was SO worth it to bury it again. We'll never meet, but it's fun to imagine what they're up to. Sort of like a message in a bottle thing. Know what I mean?

How Cool is that.

It could be part of the GeoCaching game.

Sometimes I find little caches of hot wheels cars. Never thought about leaving them in place though.  You are a true softy treasure hunter.   Clapp

What a thoughtful man you are GD.  Pray . I happened to find a geocache in Hawaii last summer and took it with me not knowing what it was, but wanting to know more for a website was printed on the container. I learned it was a geocache worldwide game and made every effort to locate its owner. The geocache company tried but was unable to locate the true owner. To date, I have not received note from the company, to which I told I'd return the cache as soon as the owner replied.
