Go Up Go Down

I have only been detecting since last summer. So I am still relatively new to the hobby.

I took my ACE 250 to my parents house, on Cape Cod and decided to detect behind the barn that sits on the back of the property.
After about 15 minutes of swinging I got a dime signal, at about 2 inches. I dug a small plug and I couldn't find it. I swung the detector out over the small pile of dirt I had made... the target was out of the hole, but eluding my eyes. This was before I new about pin pointers.

After about 15 minutes of running my fingers thru the dirt... I found the target, and it wasn't a dime.  Shocked
It was an 1865 Indian Head penny. I could NOT believe something this old was just an inch or two under the ground.

To this date it is the oldest coin I have ever found, and the coin that got me hooked on detecting!

I would love to also find something that old. I also just started recently (1 month ago).

Great find, well done. Hope you find many more.

Tip,
When target is known to be "out of the hole" grab a hand full of dirt and pass it under the coil.
If you have no ring on that hand your target will sound off.
