Although it is snap based I believe it was at one time a Harahey knife blade.
This assumption is based on the manner in which the tip is beveled.
Beveling is a character typical of these knife types.
Believe me I sure wish it had been complete.
I also believe it was never finished but broken during the knapping procedure.
The tip is finely worked on both edges and stops short about 1.5" into one edge.
The opposite edge is finely worked along the full length of the blade.
Found in a year round flowing creek. Dallas Co. Texas.
Due to missing base, type and age can only be approximated. ~2000-3000 years.
Finding the missing piece would be a waste of time.
1 in a billion+ chance of ever consolidating the parts together again.
Will hit that creek again soon........Clovis next time........intact.....hope, ah hope, ah hope.. Waveing

Sorry not a "Spear tip". It was without a doubt a knife.
Over the years I have found hundreds.
45+ years of finding points and fossils.

Skill not lost, there are highly skilled knappers out there selling "FAKES" that are difficult for the novice to pick out.
I see where some people are taken in by these fakers all the time.
I am a mentor on an arrowhead web site.

What amazes me is how sharp some of those actually are.  Even broken, it is a thing of beauty.

Out for gold, Nice blade. I looked at some harahey knife pictures on the web and yours appears to have been an especially slender example that was broken just beyond the center (your half). I've found those in Texas with just the tip broken off and wondered why anyone would make a spear point tapered on both ends. I guess I needed to do some homework. That appears to be a gray chert. Lots of gray chert here in Florida. The translucent stuff is the hardest and will cut like a razor. Gambol

Here are two artifacts I found recently in West Central Florida about 30 mi from the gulf coast. The first is a ground object. which I think may have been an arrow shaft scraper the second is a point that is so sharp and perfect I would think it a fake had I not found it in the field. What do you think?

What do I think?
I think that is one exquisite example.
I'm not familiar with Fla artifacts. Beautiful material.
The "ground" thingy appears to be a shaft scraper and a good one to boot.
As far as "Harahey" knife the bevel and the area it was found is key to why I say "Harahey".
Other collectors that have seen it agree, most examples (on-line) are intact and were
re-chipped in antiquity from a different and much larger specimen.
This point did not start out as narrow as it is and was re-worked to it's present form and
most likely broken again and used as is.
The material it is made from came from central Texas ~ 150 miles from the find area. (Edwards Chert)
The chipping is reminiscent of Cody complex artifacts but similarities is where it ends.
Re-work has destroyed any possibilities of positive previous ID.
It is not the best "broke" I have found but it is one of my better, very sharp! (4.25" Length/7/8" width/3/8" thick)
Thank you for your interest and your reply.

out for gold, I have hunted the Edwards LS. at the dam on Bell lake, Bell County. It is a prolific site and I have two memorable artifacts from there. One is a hand ax the other is a Net weight. Pictures will follow. Gambol
