Wish I could tell you more but I can't.  HIS-STORY is not the Indian story.  History is not written for our understanding of the truth.

my guess, was that if they were enslaved, it could have been by the Spanish in their early comquest for gold.

Unlikely since the Anasazi culture is generally considered to have ended before the Spanish showed up on the scene.   Slavery existed in the Americas long before the europeans showed up.  It is one of near-universal human traits (and one of the more unfortunate)

Really?  so even the American Indians enslaved one another?  I never ever really thought that far back, but it makes sense.  I'm buying the first time machine that comes out.....I'll figure it all out   Wink eventually.  Now you've got me interested in that subject, I need to research that some more....Thanks BA....it's good to be back to this site, life's been absolutely out of control lately, but all is well in love and war.  take care Smiley

yeah, the "classical" Anasazi villages, including Chaco and the cliff dwellings were all abandoned prior to 1400 (most prior to 1300).   As for slave keeping among the Native Americans, the absence of a written language makes it a little difficult to KNOW what went on pre-european contact (except where graphic records were kept such as in the Mayan, Oltec, Aztec, and Inca civilizations).   Specific to Southwest Archeology/Anasazi you might want to look for Steve Leckson---for a professor and a professional archeologist, he's a pretty easy read.

btw---current theory pretty much accepts the claims by the Hopi and the various New Mexico Pueblo tribes that they are the descendants of the Anasazi, but the time frame for the abandonment of the classic "Anasazi" cliff dwellings and settlements like Chaco Canyon (either due to slavery or other cause) is still prior to Colombus' 1492 voyage, let alone Coronado's search for Cibola.

The other major "advanced" (at least from an archetecture standpoint) culture---the moundbuilders---probably did come to an end (indirectly) because of the arrival of the Europeans---mostly because of the rapid spread of diseases for which they had no immunity (and in  many cases before a European even had a chance to set foot in the area).   And yes, there were direct military conflicts between early european arrivals and some moundbuilder villages just as there were between Spaniards and the southwest Pueblos.

Man, leave it to you to get me the facts  Smiley thanks BA.  I am actually really stoked...I'm going to be heading on a five day road trip across Southern Utah, and then into Mesa Verde, colorado and then try to hit Chaco and do kind of a big loop back up into Southern Utah and up to where I live.  The whole purpose of the trip is to find archaeological sites pertaining to early Native American Indian cultures.  I should be able to get some pretty great pictures.

Nice pictures,Thank you.
I have read... dont remember exactly where perhaps in life time mag the accounts of the last annasasi woman(an old woman) believe to be alive back thanin the  seventies or early 80's whom she lived in the cooper canyon area and she said something like this:   "I dont know what wrong we have done that god has decided to wipe us out of the face of the earth"  God bless their soul....... That area is tarahumara country in the chihuahua sierras.......  There is an account of jesuits missionaries comnvincing natives of a town colse to cooper canyon area to go to Durango state to help build new villages. They where native indians from Nonoava  and Humariza villages back in late 1600- early 1700's hunds.
