Say Oro, where did you get this map?Huh?Huh?  I am truely interested in  more info and more details of this map.  That is if there is any more info that I could get.  I am located in Albuquerque, NM.

Thanks, any info would help and maybe we could hook up and go prospecting together.

Hello Danny, I made the map using data from the USGS. I would be more than happy to make a more detailed map for you. Just let me know your area of interest, The latitude longitude or some prominent map feature to center the map on is all I need. Mapping  has been a hobby of mine for many years and have commercial versions for sale at different places.

Hi Oro
Maps are easier  to follow  with some GPS co-ordinates locating the sites .  Of course that is if you have the co-ordinates to start with . Ive know of  a couple of sites that I have worked the co-ordinates out, but the next biggest problem is to get to the site . sometimes they're in pretty rugged country .

Oro, I think that is truely neat that you make the maps that you have posted.  If at all possible, I don't have a GPS or the Lat/Long of any place in particular.  Is there a way to do it say, within a 50-75 mile radius from Albuquerque?Huh?Huh??  And if I am not mistaken, some of these marks are supposed to be buried treasure from tails or folklore.  If something was to be found, I am the type of person that would share the wealth.  So if anything did come up, you would have to make it to Albuquerque and have your picture taken with me to share the find and wealth.  Like I said when I signed up on this site, I do know of an area in the Organ Mountains that did produce when I was a kid with an old Rockhound that had a shop in Organ, NM.  That area is filled with old gold mines and silver mines and there is a lot of rose quartz and granite and of course lots of low grade turquoise.

Back in the early 50's the military found an old gold mine that supposed to belong to Mexico and was filled with gold bars that was produced by a preist and the local indians for mexico but did not turn the gold over to the mexican army.  The church was supposed to be in Mesilla, NM, just out side of Las Cruces and El Paso, TX.  The gold was removed by the military and the US government did not disclose the amount of the gold removed.  My father told me of this story, he was a civilian working on the White Sands Missle Range at the time when the govenment was removing the gold. Wise

So, any information that you could give me on the site would be beneficial.

Thanks,   Danny.........Wile E. Coyote

aussie, I put the lat lon on the Albuquerque map. A 90 mile area is still pretty coarse for detail, the positions are exact as per the US gov. The lat lon will only be ball park when working with this map. Some areas are so rich that you could probably look most anywhere though.

GeoCommunicator is a good start for you.

Just start zooming into New Mexico.   You will see what happens.

You can zoom in and out.   Go Right Left, Up , Down.

Play with the settings and it will even tell you who Own the Claims.

Have Fun!   Great

I spent most of a summer once looking for gold in NM.  There is a lot of info on the web concerning locations but many of them are simply not accessable being on private land.  You can join one of the clubs ( as I did) and they give you their locations and you can search them as often as you wish.  I found they were not good for metal detectors but you might have some luck with drywashing and a lot of hard work.  There are a few creeks and rivers that can be reached by the public but you have to search for them on the web.  Panning or other water active methods might get you some color but don't plan on making a living from it. It's mostly for the fun of it. Enjoy the country, look for the fun of looking and if you get lucky be happy.
