Was wondering if anyone had any info on this "legend"? I have heard two stories, the first is an old French hermit hid several chests on the island and the second is that a bunch of French raiders from the French and Indian war hid the chests. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Never heard of it, but it sounds like you need a deep-seeking type detector to find it. Maybe a 15 inch coil or a 2-box type like the Fisher Gemini-3.  Detecting Good luck!
