Just put together a new battery pack for my goldscan 2 made up from 12 1.2v C size cells .According to the manual A full needle deflection on the meter should equate with about 15 volts on a full charge .I checked mine with a separate multi meter and its pumping out 16.3 volts with the needle off the scale . Is it safe to use at this level or is it likely to damage something ?

How many cells was in the original Battery Pack ?  When you say meter OFF the scale, it's not hard pegging the meter Right, eaa?  If the original pack in fact contained 12 cells  you should be ok.  The 15v is just a Nominal Voltage.  after a few minutes of run time it will drop some.
