Greetings!

I'm a newb to detecting but am an avid electronics hobbyist. I recently found a Heathkit GD-1290 at a yard sale that looks brand new - the only thing is the entire circuit board is missing!

I've got all the parts available to rebuild it, but I can't locate an actual pcb anywhere.  I can make one with a foil trace, but I really don't want to go through the effort of configuring one off the schematics.

Does anyone know of a source for a new or NOS board or a even a copy of the foil trace?

Thanks in advance for any ideas on this!

Your instruction book should have a copper trace pattern which you can doctor with Photoshop or some other paint program to create an overlay for a blank PC board. Then you can etch your own, drill it and off you go. There are way too many video tutorials on YouTube to try and explain the process here. One good source for DIY PC boards is Instructables which is located here:

Thank you very much!  I'm afraid my manual isn't high enough resolution to see all the trace pattern clearly through the X-ray view.  As you suggested, I have indeed tried to erase the components from this view to leave only the trace, but I just can't get there.  (And I'm not good enough with schematics to rebuild any of the questionable areas.)

I am comfortable making pcb's if I can just find a clean foil trace.  Heck, I would even gladly buy an old board and repair or de-solder everything and reinstall the new components.

I realize this isn't a high end detector, but I am a tinkerer and like the challenge of projects!

Thanks again for your suggestion.

Even though they no longer sell kits, the Heathkit company still has an office. Try here:
