Hello I am from Malaysia. This is my first time joining a metal detector forum since I just got hold of my very first metal detector three weeks ago.(It's an ACE 250). I hope to hit a beach over the weekend although I have done a field test on a park and a smaller beachfront. My assessment of the machine: It is generally okay for a beginner like me.

I have been looking around at our local websites for anyone who passionately share the same hobby and interest as I am, but there was non. I am glad I have found the thunting.com message board, where at least I may share some of my new experience, treasure finds, and technical problems with experts and newbies alike.

If I am successful in creating interest of the hobby here in Malaysia, I might form a metal detectors club, who knows? There are a lot of unexplored areas for treasure hunting in Malaysia and I hope to learn from all you guys and gals joining community.

Hope to hear from some of you.

So Go Hunting.  Detecting

Hi...Tanx. Any good tips for hunting on the beach. Whether to start on the soft sand or down at the water level of wet sand? I've read that the sensitivity level of the metal detector might be a problem. How should one overcome this one?

Regards  Detecting

Buy a metal detector designed for the type of hunting you are going to do. For discussion, a VLF/TR might be the absolute best for where you are using it but without ground balancing, you cannot use it on salty beaches. If you have automatic ground balance as an option, that might be the best solution for salty beaches. It really depends on the manufacturer and the machine itself.

What are you using?

Hay Yoda,

Go ahead and try it. From what I understand some
beaches are worse than others.

You can hunt the dry sand. In the wet sand and water
try reducing your sensativity. But it may not work.

Oh, by the way, welcome to the forum from Arkansas,

Tabdog

Hi...ksightler,

Yep, there are lots of history here waiting underneath, I just couldn't wait myself to make a big dig. But it is the same everywhere, I suppose there is a lot of curiosity with locals seeing a guy going around with a headphone on and some strange looking equipment here. To tell you a story, I was picking up the detector at our parcel office 3 weeks ago and the customs guy was curious before he release my newly bought detector. He asked; "Are you looking for old mines?". I nearly laughed at his face, but I kept my composure, and just told him that there is no war around and was only using it to look for my old grandma lost ring.

Hopefully I will get more than my old grandma (bless her) lost ring.

Cheers and Best of luck to you too ksightler.  Smiley
