GoldDigger1950,

Nice to hear from you and from someone who knows the area i am in. I'll be sure to let you know if I find/dig anything exciting. I'm researching a mansion in Tacoma right now. It was built in the mid 1800's and sits on 13 acres. I hope the owners will let me detect it. It is a tourist site now. I'd like to dig it give them some history to put on display. Maybe split the coinage. Ezra Meeker mansion.

Christian,

Tks for the info and I'm pretty sure you are right about the old world spelling of warmoth from warmuth. It probably got changed upon coming to the US. Maybe Mr Simpson will shed some light as well.

The best way to approach a tourist attraction is to offer them all of the artifacts found for their museum, should they have one. If not, offer to give them the artifacts anyway and suggest they build shadow boxes for them to display. It all makes the tourists happy. Tell them that old houses often had a small dump site somewhere near the property boundary and things like dented teapots, silverware and other metal objects of interest turn up all the time at those dupe areas.

By the way, did you notice I did not mention coins and jewelry? If they do not mention them, neither should you. If they do mention jewelry, offer to split the value based on appraisal and they can keep it. Fair is fair. As to coins, stick to your guns on that one. Coins should go to you since you will likely be searching the site for them free of charge. It is a small price for them to pay for an "archaeological assessment." That is the name you should use to describe what you are doing. Remind them that the normal pay for a detectorist to travel and detect a site can be typically $250.00 per hour with a full week or two of work doing a grid search on just the close in areas. The full 13 acres could take a year. Of course, you can discount your fee if they take a year's worth of searching.  Wink

Capinrich & Farmdigger,

Tks for the welcome and yes the scoot part of my name indicates that I ride both motorcycles and scooters, and I've been a pirate at heart for a while. It probably has something to do with my Navy career.

GD,

Excellent approach. If/when the property manager responds I will definately try your methods to see how I do. For about 2 weeks now we have had very extreme heat and humidity. Too much to the point its not comfortable to get out and do some detecting. I'm talking 97-100 degrees with a max humidity as well. The heat I can handle but not when it comes with extreme humidity. Yesterday we tied max temp at Seatac all time. Today Seatac may break the all time temps. I'm hoping it cools down into the 70's for the weekend so I can get out and do some detecting.

Hay Scoot,

I have been successful at findin jewelry for two years
now. I do it on dry land for the most part. Check my
album,

You may have an advantage with the beaches I suspect
are available to you. Beaches seem to be the best places.

On dry land, few places produce better than a tot lot
(playground). School tot lots, if they are available to the
public also.

In tot lots, use no discrimination. Dig every response,
even those iffy ones until you know just exactly what it is.

If you use the 2500, set it for less depth. Be sure to use
the higher frequency and a small coil. You can use all
metal in the open, but it may give you fits around the
steel playground equipment.

I do not know, but in the end the 250 might work better.
I have never used a 2500.

I can tell you this, my favorite tot lot machine is the Tesoro
Compadre. My Compadres have found more gold than any
other machine. That is because they do best in tot lots.

If you looked at my album, you know what I look for.

I seldom use my discrimination higher than foil. I never
notch. Programs seem usless for finding jewelry to me,
so I just use simple machines with analog controls and
no display. These type machines respond and recover
very quickly, helping me to hunt in trash.

Coins are a little different. Displays work much better for
coin hunting. To me, coins are just one type of artifact.
Most artifacts are lower conductors and not round.  It is
a different type of hunting, somewhat.

If I did not bore you to death, then, I hope that helps.

Happy Huntin,

Tabdog

Thanks for the response. If the temp drops from 103 to under 90 by 7pm i might go out for a few hours tonight. I was thinking about a paintball course in the middle of a park nearby. It has a natural canope from many pine tree's. If it doesnt pan our there are some tot lots I can try nearby as well.
