Hi, Brian from Liverpool, UK - just got my first metal detector.

Looking forward to my first find (though not finding it so easy to get permission)

Are there any places you don't need permission?

Hello, Brian.

     Welcome to THunting.com.    So what kind of detector did you get?

      As for permission, other than you're own property you need permission for all private property you might want to hunt.  For public property, it will depend on local, regional and national laws.

Hi Brian Canine - I don't know rules & regulations in L'pool, but I do wish you the best of luck. Sure a lot of nice finds in your country - I'm jealous of all the old rich history underfoot there. Sue

Yep, The UK is different on the laws we have here in the US.

Here Parks and Beaches are to the most part open to hunt.

Living over there for 5 years, I know you have strange property law.

I would think it best to hit the local Establishment.

a "discriminating" metal detector - cheap thing off ebay. Figured it would be good as a start machine. When I have a better idea of things I'll invest in something better. I thought the Garrett Ace 250 looked good.

Yep living in a city doesn't make it easy to get permissions. But being as you live in scouseland you always have the beaches/coastline. You can detect on most of the UK's coastline (the Queen owns most of it), you might need a permit, but there is a website were you can download them and it's free !

Metal Detecting on Crown Estate Foreshore

Anyone wishing to go metal detecting on Crown Estate foreshore will require a permit.
This page contains a brief description of The Crown Estate?s general position regarding metal detecting and treasure hunting on our foreshore.

Applying for a Permit for Metal Detecting on Crown Estate Foreshore
Note ? this does not apply to searching below the foreshore, i.e. on the seabed for which a separate consent may be required. Please direct any enquiries over seabed searching to:

The Crown Estate generally seeks to encourage access over, and responsible use of, the foreshore and as a result our consent for non-commercial metal detecting on the foreshore will not incur a charge. Foreshore in England, Wales and Northern Ireland is defined as the land between mean high water and mean low water. In Scotland the definition is between mean high water of spring tides and mean low water of spring tides

Here is the url for the detecting of beaches in the UK;
