Hello all,

I want to introduce myself and thank everyone for all the information I have thus far gleaned from reading your forum.  I am so new to the hobby as I have yet to purchase a detector.  This is understandable since I wish to specialize my hunting to the surf zone of North Carolina's Atlantic Ocean beaches with occasional inland fresh water surf/beach hunting.

I am drawn toward the Fisher CZ-21 or Minelab's Excalibur's.  I am also looking at Minelab's Sovereign GT or X-Terra 70 and building a water proof enclosure to use in the surf zone for these detectors but I am not sure how practical that is.  I have also considered a PI detector however I really don't want to dig up 1000 rusty bottle caps before I see my first real find but I know that first real find could be a real jewel.  I have only just started my research and have yet to come to a final decision.

Thanks for letting a newbie into the group and any advise would be greatly appreciated with my research on the best machine for my intended hunting.

Greetings, Justin and welcome. You will find a broad range of people from every level of experience and ability here. Take it all in, discard what does not work for you and contribute when you have that eureka moment.

Minelab's Excalibur is the favorite tool of my hunting mate Silverscoop76. He swears by it and has learned to make that machine talk to him like a lover does. He uses it on land with the usual problems of target ID and pinpointing associated with PI machines but he is quite happy with his dynamite little machine. Oh, it is little. Quite compact and easy to transport.

I can not help ya. I am land locked in Arkansas.

But welcome to tha forum.

I use 2 pound machines.

Those 5.5 pound water machines

would give me a hard time.

But, those beach guys seem to

bring in tha nice stuff,

Welcome to our forum!

Well, I am a strong beliver in the Fihser CZ-21. In my oppinion it is still the best Surf & Undereater discriminating machine available. It has a very good disc and is very well built. You can often find one rather cheap (less than USD 400.00 ) on eBay.

The Excalibur is also a good machine but personally I think the CZ-21 gives overall the better performance.

Please keep us posted about what detector you will go for and more important your finds. Good lukc and happy detecting!
