Shawn,

I have been doing some research and I have discovered an old fort called King's Fort which was later renamed Kingsborough and is now called Kaufman, Tx.

I am trying to pinpoint exactly where this fort was located and hopefully will find a relic or two.

I bought an xj9-3050 off of ebay ( I know it isnt a Garrett, Minelab , or Whites ) but they screwed up and sent me two for the price of one ! I will take a few trips with my son and if he still maintains an interest in metal detecting I will consider spending more money. ( I am a single father and a cop so money isn't just laying around my house )  I hope to teach him a little history while we search.

Donnie

Sounds good.  Once you get out there and find a few things worth money, you will be able to upgrade.  Since you are a cop, you should know allot about looking up public records so I'm sure that will help.  Let me know if I can help in any way.

Shaun,

To be honest with you i dont know anything about public records as it pertains to metal detecting. I have been trying to locate an old park where there were community gatherings in Dallas County. The name of the park is Seago Grove Park . I think it is near where the federal coreectional institution is in Seagoville but I am unsure.......any suggestions ?

Well I would go to the Library and ask to see the oldest newspaper or one around the year that you believe the park was there.

Welcome to the forum and the hobby of metal detecting. One thing you might try is looking into seeing if there are any detecting clubs in your area. Talking with local people is always the best way to go about finding old historic sites or gathering places in your area.  Just google your area and metal detecting and see what pops up. Seems that most states have at least a couple clubs. Happy  Detecting!!!
