Hi all,

New to the hobby.  In fact so new I still have that new car smell.  I have never actually been hunting.  I have tried panning for gold once, but had no clue what I was doing.  I would like to find some good nugget sites near my home, the western edge of the Mojave desert in CA.  I've been thinking of joining a club, will probably attend some local club meetings to scope them out.  Feel free to contact me if you belong to one!  I have no equipment, but have been trying to get plans for a DIY detector.  I am an Electrical Engineer, so I'm not afraid of circuitry.  I do have a 2 year old though, so time is hard to come by, so if I could find a good used detector, I would be happy.  I see a lot of posts from coin "shooters."  Being new to the hobby, I am assuming that is mostly an East Coast thing since we in the West aren't as historied?

Anyway, look forward to finding some treasure so I can post my adventures.

Cheers,
BJ

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Welcome aboard mate! California is indeed a great place for finding natural gold no matter wheter you will be paning, sluicing or prospecting by using a detector! I hope that you will soon find some nice nuggets - but don't forget to show us some pictures then  Wink

Regards,

Christian
