Modified Blind Squirrel PI, Matchless IB
« on: March 31, 2014, 01:45:25 am »
Go Up Go Down

Just popped in to say 'Hi" and tell a little about myself.
I'm a native Virginian now retired (career electronics engineering work) and settled in northern Thailand. A couple of weeks ago while doing some yard work my wedding band slid off and into a thick leaf/brush pile and my family and I spent the next 3 days searching for it unsuccessfully. Not ready to give up I threw together a little BFO and swept the area the next day for an hour or so. No luck. Got on the Internet and saw the Matchless IB so ran down to a local electronics shop to gather the needed materials to try that out. After it came to life I ran out back and this time got lucky. Within 10 minutes of searching the Matchless IB found my ring. Now I have the MD bug. I couldn't go out in public using my Matchless with it's blue and yellow PVC and plastic dinner plates DD coil (even though it works great) so I did some more Googling for PI designs. Wow, so many to choose from too! I decided on the 'Blind Squirrel' to experiment with first. I've built 6" and 9.5" concentric coils for it. I've had it out twice so far to a couple public park areas. Stares, queries, pull tabs, bottle caps and wire were the 'treasures'.
Anyway, enough blabbering. I see a lot of interesting reading to catch up on here.

Thanks everyone for the welcome! Smiley

Hi Sinclairuser! Yeah, I'm looking forward to giving the squirrel a good workout soon. In a couple weeks Thailand has it's yearly water festival where folks are all out drinking and partying, throwing water on each other. I'm picturing rings and other things get tossed around as well. Detecting Cheesy
