Go Up Go Down

Hello  I'm new at this and first posting. I have a question about travelling to US and Mexico with my new detector and pinpointer. Could one encounter problems at US customs Phoenix or VancouverBC departure or Mexicam customs into Puerto Vallarta. I wouldn't want to have it confiscated as I just got it. I will maybe look at a waiver on house insurance. I plan on taking it down and putting it in carry on bag, as US airway charges for check in bag.

Maybe nobody looks here. Still no replies. Should I try in another area?

Hello, Cabazon.   Welcome to THunting.com.   I know of several members and other hobbyists who have taken their detectors to Mexico.  None of them have reported any problems doing so.

When in doubt, though, check with the nearest Mexican consulate.

I have personally taken two detectors two Mexico, one time the customs official just looked at it and shrugged. (i don't think he knew what it was), and the other time they made me put it together and turn it on.
I'm pretty sure you'll be fine.

I've been to Mexico several times since 9-11.  Taken my detector a couple of times and never had any trouble at all with customs getting it in or out.  I did have one lady custom agent confiscate some of my batteries once!  I think maybe she wanted some for home! lol!  Grin  A couple of those trips were to Puerto Vallarta.  Unless something drastic has changed in Mexican customs, you should not have any trouble at all!

By the way, welcome to the forum from the Blue Mountains of northeastern Oregon!         Detecting

I have crossed the Mexico border a 100 plus times since the early 70s with few problems except going from Calif to Baja in the late 70's.
