Go Up Go Down

Hello,
My name is azmula and I am new to this website. I have been prospecting in Arizona and Mexico for about 30 years. I am interested in the Stone Maps and the Jesuit influence the New World. Presently, I am searching for historical data on the Tumlinsons of DeWitt, Texas. Particularily John J. "Peg Leg" and his grandson Travis Tumlinson ("finder of the maps"?). Dobie and Mitchell are referenced by most writers when they speak of the Tumlinson treasure hunting background. I need more traceability of the data or a family member who can discuss personal knowledge of their exploits.

I tend to be a little fixated in my direction of research due to my previous findings. My opinions do change when my research justifies it. I do enjoy two sided discussions public or private.

Thank you, azmula

Airwing1,
Thank you for the greeting. As for my post, Travis Tumlinson was the man who purportedly found the the stone maps in the desert along the highway between Florence and Phoenix, AZ. His grandfather, John J. "Peg Leg" Tumlinson was a well known treasure hunter form DeWitt County, Texas. There have been suggestions over the years that Peg Leg "obtained" the maps from a Mexican in the El Paso/Juarez area and passed them to his son who later pased them to Travis. This is a very short version of the whole story.

I am just trying to develop an accurate time line for the existence of the stone maps.

Thanks,
azmula

Hi Azmula, I looked around the other evening and it seems Travis was from Oregon. Odd that he'd just be visiting in the area and come upon the stone. He lost interest in it after a short while, too. I can understand why you might doubt that he was the actual finder. Good luck on your quest and welcome to the forum. Sue

Don Jose,
I am glad to be online again. As soon as things calm down in Mexico we are coming down to visit some friends and do some research in some of my favorite areas. Perhaps we can figure out a way to get together to swap some treasure hunting lies.

How are things going for you and your search? I hope things are coming together.

I am trying to find a forum here that might be discussing stone maps and Jesuits. Can you offer any directions?

Take care,
azmula
