Hi Happyhunter, and Welcome from Utah! Sorry I can't help you about your question.. there are several members on that are from out in that area. You may possibly want to ask that question in the beginners thread - you might get better results in there.
Happy hunting!

Welcome from New Mexico.

We have a couple of folks from France here.

Being New to France, have you checked out the current laws on detecting?

Welcome aboard Happyhunter72!

You'll have fun here and enjoy the forum very much, theres a wealth of info here to help & aid you in the hobby and in your geographic regions of France.

I'm thinking your area in SW France would be laden with some Military WW1 & WW2 relics and the like, and you might also want to go to the oldest sites that you can find as well as the beach areas...so Happyhunting & Goodluck.

Cheers,
Il est bon de vous avoir ici avec nous.  Great
Jim

Welcome to our forum! You should be able to find neat Roman and Celtic relics just in about any part of France. I hope you will become a regular with us and to see of your finds. France is still a great area for metal detecting.

Best wishes,

Christian

Hi Happyhunter 72,
Unfortunately, I am a some distance from you (I live in dept 84 near Avignon). However, you may want to check the French websites as there are detectorists in your area. There is also a detector distributor in Toulouse. Check out

.   Unfortunately, many of the websites are in french. My suggestion to you is to visit one or more of the websites with someone who can communicate in french and try to join up with a fellow detectorist.. I know that the SW area have a LOT of english speaking people so you may get lucky. As you are probably aware, detecting in France requires written permission (except for salt water beaches). There is a distributor in Le Thor (France Detection Services near Avignon) that has a yearly gathering in late spring/summer. I have not been to it yet but plan on doing so this year. If you want to communicate with them, you can do so with M.Alain Armand at aarmand@fdspro.com. Mr. Armand speaks decent english but he is hearing impaired so cannot speak on the phone (can do so in person). However, he will communicate on e-mail in english.

I have not done any relic detecting but have done jewelry and coin detecting here in France. I moved here a little over a year ago and recently bought a Whites VX3 and am learning it's features. I do travel to places near Nimes (Ste.Marie sur la Mer) for beach detecting. If you ever get down that way, let me know and we can meet.  Good luck. My first recommendation to you is to learn the language. It will help you a lot.  Also, if you want, you can check out joining the Lostmystuff organization on the internet (you can read about them).
