The Excalibur is waterproof, mate. Just be ready to leap aside from the lightning strikes.

Hey, it works for me.

While I have your attention, here are a few water hunting tips. Use a mask and snorkel in the water and hunt no deeper than waist deep. Deeper searching is a waste without scuba or a diving hookah. Carry along a solid plastic or wooden spike attached to your wrist with a short length of bungee cord to anchor yourself. When you dig with a sand scoop in the water, you push yourself from the target. The anchor, stabbed into the ground a foot or so from your target will help to keep you near the target and able to dig it with your free hand. Yes, your detector has to go floating for a few seconds while both hands are occupied so that needs a tether to you as well. I tether my anchor to the detector case. It floats along near my hand until I need it.

The best place to find goodies? Walk directly away from the shoreline until you find that sweet spot where the smooth beach sand ends in a small drop off that contains pebbles, shells and, you guessed it, all manner of heavy things. That area of "peas" is the place where all the heavy stuff gathers like gold in a gold pan or nuggets in the riffles of a sluice box. Follow that line of peas along the coast, searching as you go, and you will find the good stuff. That area is almost always no deeper than waist deep, which is why I suggest a snorkel and shallow searching. Don't bother measuring how far out it is. With every day, the ocean movement and tidal conditions will change the location of the "peas" by a few feet or yards.

Now go tell your bride that you're off to find a ring for her. Tomorrow. Or Saturday.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Golddigger:
Thanks for those tips. I had never done the water hunting until now. There is a learning curve. In fact I haven't made it out to waist deep water yet with the MD. I'm trying to perfect the digging in about a foot of water, and haven't mastered that yet. I will definetly put your tips to use.
Thanks,
Jerry

Hay, I got a bucket of brass and copper that I am savin.

It would be more profit if I started collectin aluminum.

But, NA, I just want ta stick ta detectin. Tha brass and
copper just make into tha recycle. If I started on aluminum,
I would need too big of a bag. Then it would be like work.
