Go Up Go Down

Just want to say a quick hello to all of you!  I'm new to the site and to the hobby as well.  I've had a metal detector for several years but have not really used it that much.  I just happen to be on vacation right now in West Texas and I've had time to let my mind wander (and my mouse!) and here is where I've ended up!  I've always had a fascination with geology, mainly enjoying hiking and biking on or around large outcroppings.  This week I was fortunate enough to take a trip to Hueco Tanks, an area rich in natural and ural history.  My brother-in-law, an archaelologist, was our guide.  He showed us many examples of the ural history of the land, dating back some 10,000 years!  We found pieces of pottery that dated back about 1000 years.  All of this has gotten my treasure hunting juices flowing!  It's hard to describe the feeling of holding something in your hand or gazing at pictures painted on rock walls that date back so far in history.  It's somewhat mystical, spiritual, and mysterious.  It makes you feel like you can take a step back in time, if only for an instant, and imagine what it was like to be there.  I know I'm starting to sound a bit sappy, but you know what I mean.  Anyway, I have this newly tapped desire to experience the past in whatever form it may be, cultural or geological, Cival War atrifacts or gold nuggets, maybe even a meteorite!  What other hobby can offer so much?!!  I look forward to all of the advice and help that is offered here by all of you and hopefully I'll soon have some of my own treasure to show you all.

Regards,
Dave

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.
