Go Up Go Down

Just want to introduce myself. I am Mike. I am a retired electronics engineer. Always loved designing and working with new concepts in electronic. However, I spent a major portion in management. I spend most of my time taking care of my mother-in-law who has dementia. Hardest job I have ever done.

I have been metal for about 30 years. It was really funny how I got hooked. A good friend of mine loaned me a whites 5000d and told me to try it out. Well I got home and my wife and mother-in-law met me and of course wanted to know what I had. I told them a metal detector along with some explanation of what it would do. Well as you might know they wanted to see it work. Luckily I already the manual so I fired it up and started sweeping for my first treasure. Both women watching intently for some action. Not long and the first hit came. My wife asked what was the sound. I told here something was in the ground. Immediately her foot came crashing down on the spot where we got the hit and my mother-in-law was screaming dig it up, dig it up, lets see what we got. I don't remember what they dug up. I was to busy laughing at them both looking for treasure. My wife immediately told me we needed one of those machines.

Very excited to find this website. Forums are great. I have enjoyed reading many of the stories. I really got tickled at one of Xavier's responses to an electronics problem. Looking forward to with you. Just remember I am rusty in my electronics. One thing I can say is metal detectors are FM (F...... Magic). I am interested in learning more about the theory of how the different detectors function and coil design.

Still using my first detector, a Whites 6000 di series 2. Looking at purchasing a new one in the future. Just not sure what to get.

Hope I will be able to help.
