I'm an American by birth, a cowboy by choice. There's no better lifestyle for me. I started metal detecting around 25 years ago, with a Bounty Hunter Outlaw. These days I carry an AT Pro. Finding relics and coins brings history alive. I hope to learn a lot from the pros on this forum. Thanks for havin me!

New Mexico is one of my favorite places. I was born in Hobbs, and have traveled most of the state. Beautiful country.

Since you have ties to New Mexico AND you're a cowboy, I'll overlook the fact you live in Oklahoma (heck some of my favorite relatives lived there until they got out)---except to say "Did you hear about the Texas Aggie who moved to Oklahoma?"    "Raised the IQ of both states."

Actually we're glad to have you here and hope you become an active and regular participant in our discussions.   (And parts of Oklahoma are about as pretty as any other place I've ever been).   What's your favorite (not necessarily best or most valuable) find so far?

BA

I'd have to say my most favorite find would be my first silver coin.  About 25 years ago, Guthrie, the town I live in, removed all concrete sidewalks in the downtown area; and replaced them with brick. A friend introduced me to metal detecting, and took me to a virgin area that had just had the sidewalks removed, the day before. He took one side of the street, and gave me the other. It's amazing what fell through the original wood sidewalks, a hundred years before. Nails, eyeglasses, pocket knives, etc. I was in History Heaven! When I made to the area where the Same Old Moses Saloon had once stood, my Bounty Hunter Outlaw provided a signal that was unlike what I had been hearing all afternoon. I knelt down, pushed my trowel through the sand and into the dirt below. As I pulled out the second scoop, I saw a shiny object fall back into the hole. It landed flat, and I stared at it for a long time before picking it up. I didn't know if it was a token of some kind, or just what, but when I lifted it out, and read the words ONE DIME, I smiled so big my ears pushed my hat off my head. It was a Seated Liberty, in pretty good shape. I've been hooked ever since!

Oregon - the home of Larry Mahan! One of the best rodeo cowboys in history, and some of the most scenic beaches in creation. I know because I've been there.

What I wouldn't give to swing a coil in Belgium. Thousands of years of history, just below the ground. Wow!

Australia is the only place in the world where gold nuggets are the size of prawns! I know a couple of Aussie Cowboys who found there way to Oklahoma. Funny, funny, guys! Good ropers too.

Hi u.b. Welcome from Connecticut. One of the guys that works with us at the local utility is a pro rider on the PBR. He is as loco as the Bulls he rides.  <grin> Around here they tear up the sidewalks and pour new cement the same day. Almost impossible to get the ole detector running.

U.B., if you're a real cowboy you know about the Pendleton Roundup.  I live about 50 miles southeast of there!
