Hi everybody, have just joined this Forum. I am from new Zealand and mine black sands on beaches. I recently came across a post regarding a Hydrofuge, apparently manufactured/sold by Clark Galazyn who has since passed away. I am very keen on any information that may be out there in this community regarding the Hydrofuge. Have a great Easter,
Regards, Chalky

So if I understand this machine needs to separate the lighter material from the gold?

Hi Chalky,
Welcome from Phoenix, Arizona. I searched the internet also but couldn't find one either. He must have been the only one that made them. A hydrofuge is usually used to separate 2 different liquids from each other. (water from gasoline, oil from water, etc.) It comes from a couple of French words sort of meaning water repelling such as in insects and hair. There is a mascara called a hydrofuge meaning water repelling. I can see where it could be used to separate the lighter black sands and dirt from gold with some modifications. The heavy mining industry have much larger ones. Too expensive for small scale mining. A fiend of mine and his partner used wool blankets in a sluice box for the matting up on the beaches of Nome Alaska in the late 70's because the gold was so fine. Came back with almost 70 ounces. Look for the garnet sands. Do like Homie says with a blue bowl or some other kind of centrifuge. Doesn't look like anyone is making a Hydrofuge these days.

A bad day at gold prospecting or metal detecting is better than a good day at work.
