Why don't you post a high resolution photo showing the text and a box?

The first thing you should know is that aluminum was first refined in 1898, 30 years after the early date on the box and 2 years before the last date. It is unlikely to be that old. The words may also be misinterpreted or incorrectly spelled since there are few vowels. This is a puzzle, all right, but has already been suggested, a nice clear photo will help greatly.

I think its German language text.
perhaps one of our German speaking members will be able to help you.

the first line reads in German
hier ruht in gott
it translates
here rests in the Lord.
i think what you have are boxes with someone’s ashes inside and you probably found a grave yard

 Hello
Thanks for the post.So it means a person dies in German in 1868 and his ashes are transfered to Tanga Tanzania Africa in 1896!Why?It doesn't make sense. The place is not a grave yard.It was buried deeper 18 feet under.which is deeper than common graves.I invite another angle solution for these boxes.
Thank you.

What ever you say.
you ask for  translation. i did it for you.
if you don't believe it then why don't you open one and have a look.
there where Germans in Africa in the 1800's just google it.
IMAO the boxes have someones ashes.
you should put them back where you got them from.

Remember, it could have become buried during construction over the original site or by a landslide, mud from a flood, landfill operations or other means. Just because it was down that deep doesn't mean it was buried that deeply. Seems to me there are a lot of things you need to figure out before you assume it was placed there deliberately.

 Hello
Thanks for the replies. We are handing over to the Government the boxes. But before we will do a scan check to establish what is inside. The TZ Government with historians, will conduct a history check with German Government to establish if there was a burial ground and who did the burying. We cant return them as other people may temper with the boxed. The site is in the middle of a big forest.
Thank you.
