Hey everyone,  I'm brand spanking new to this MD'ing thing but looks like something I shoulda started years ago. In fact, I've never even picked up a metal detector before, not that I remember at least. Hope to get my hands on one real soon!

Time to go read the new member instructions to learn how use this site.

Hi - I wish I'd have started detecting earlier myself. . . . it's interesting as you never know what you'll find.  Don't buy the cheapest detector our there as you'll not really find the deeper items, regret the purchase and then always wonder what you missed. Because of your comment about the pottery on another post, I'm assuming you aren't primarily interested in freshly dropped coins, on the surface, in parks. Welcome to the forum and get to swinging - there's treasures our there waiting for you.  Smiley Sue

Sue,

Thanks for the advice. Actually I am very interested in coin hunting, more so than pottery hunting mainly cause I'm from MN and not much pottery to be found around here. Looking to get a decent detector to search some old farm homesteads that will be razed and developed within the next 5-10 yrs. Don't wanna lose any potential caches to to a bulldozer or a shopping mall.

Understand. I like to coin hunt, too. Ah MN - suppose there's native copper more than their pottery in that area. I've made some nice old coin finds after a bobcat has removed the top layer of soil. Detect before, but try it again later, too, maybe. Sue

I agree with you. Losing hope will not lead you to become a successful one.
