Go Up Go Down

We recently moved from British Cloumbia, the small village we now live in was once a going concern, Where the last remaining commercial building stands ( Post Office ) there once was a Bank long ago burned to the ground.

The lady who runs the post office from her home sometimes finds coins in her garden, this has - well you know kindled an old interest in metal detecting.

welcome aboard ,,What part of BC ya from

Grew up in Surrey, married a Chilliwhack girl which brought me closer to the mountains. In my youth a 4x4 freak graduating to dirt bikes. Even at my age now would love to find another Can Am.

My last bush trip was up near Dawson City in the Yukon, picking Morels. I meet a really interesting dude, who the had a business and the IRS audited him finding he owed thousands of dollars. Robbed several banks to pay the IRS, he closed the business then moved to Costa Rica marring one of the native woman, she was smart enough to know her Canadian husband now becoming of age would be entitled to a pension so Moe had come back after 20 years of living in Costa Rica to file and was on an elk horn buying trip while waiting on paper work. He got side tracked with morels, where I met up with him.

I thought that I knew a few things about travel in the woods, that is until I met Moe. We went up the Top of the World Highway looking for side tracks that would lead us into a burn.

He would leave the ruck and I would search out each side ride util I found the one with a river that the spotter plane had seen. This was the road we needed.

When I found the river I went back and picked up Moe, now standing by the river I suggested we could string a cable across then ferry the bile and equipment over when Moe says if I had the truck here I could get across.

Yea Right! So he says you back into the river as fast as you can the tailgate and bumper open the river like a book. I could actually visualize this picture in my mind. But I said ok!  I can drive the bike across at this Moe takes three steps into the river saying I'll meet you on the other side.

We had to cross that river three more times that day, on the second crossing the Yamaha hit a large submerged boulder stopping it dead.  You just have to love the new electronic ignitions, even though the bike was submerged and water logged it started on the third kick.

There's a lot more to this story, if there's an interest in knowing the complete story I will tell it in another post.

Really looking forward to this as a hobby, I'm waiting on parts from Gary in Hedley BC, to build a pair of his PI metal detectors, I'm also looking for plans on building a VLF detector.

I'll keep you all posted with my progress with the Gary PI, here's a link to Gary's page.

Welcome to the forum Gustavus.

Sounds like more than I can handle.

My fast river crossings are at an end, I hope.

Happy Hunbtin,

Tabdog
