Jesus you guys are useless.  I'm going to check out the facebook metal detecting groups.

First of all Jesus has nothing to do with this Mr the scientist, secondly between us (that replied to your post) must have well over 40 years of experience, but I do apologize for having told you the facts so now I'm going to tell you just what you want to hear Mr the scientist, you can buy a counterfeit detector for $200 and support the illegal Chinese trade, of course this is going to cost money to the industry so in order to makeup for their losses we the guys that buy the real deal will end up paying a lot more for them, and who do we have to thank? well people like yourself that don't want to spend more than $200. So Mr the scientist what are you waiting for? go and buy your $200 piece of junk detector, we'll pay the bill.

I do not understand some people! He asked a question and he got perfect answers. He really needs to listen to what he is being told. I do not know of a detector under 200 bucks that can do what he asks. But for just a few bucks more, the Fisher F2, Garrett Ace 250, Bounty Hunter Tracker IV,  Whites Coinmaster, BH Discovery 1100, Minelab Xterra 305 come to mind and work well for finding metal. Oh, I have been detecting for 43+ years and have owned a few of the detectors I mentioned.

James, of those, I'd recommend the Fisher F2 with the two coil pack. The 4" coil (called the gold coil), an 8" coil. Have one, love it! Bump the spending up and get a Teknetics 4000. My son borrowed mine, hasn't returned it. The Minelab and Garrett you listed are also good detectors. What part of Texas are you in?
