Go Up Go Down

Hello THunting Team: First post and have just entered octogenarian ranks.
An Australian country lad brought up near creek beds that were long ago washed for gold, found pyrites in railway ballast on my way to school, but have never found any real gold, sadly.
Built a BFO detector for my son when young that squealed in protest in highly mineralised ground near Whim Creek, in W.A.
This old ex Air Traffic Controller is now building a PI detector, the SM Pi Pro kit from Tacoma56, and want to match it with a 250mm dia. basket coil of unknown wire diameter around a basket frame material that will not twist.
Should any of the team have been down this path,  are there any guidelines to help find a first elusive tiny nugget?
Happy Hunting to all, Ozbriq.

Welcome to the Forum.  Have a Root Around in our DIY and Repair.  We have information on a few Basket type coils in there.  I'm working on a Stacked Basket for use on a Barracuda that should work on that machine.  Once I get it all sorted I'll try one on the Mini Pulse Plus waiting assembly as a Sniper coil. .

Hello homefire: Thank you for the fast response, while developing a surfmaster Pi Pro, it will be used in the red dirt goldfields of Western Australia and need Desert depth, something out of it's SurfMaster league. I will look around DIY and Repair as you suggest.
Thanks again, OZBriqB

You might have trouble ground balancing the surfmaster in Aussie Red Dirt because it needs a manual Ground balance control and I don't think the Surf PI has the adjustment range, you might want too look in to that.

RR.

A PI doesn't normally need balancing, RR.

I know the Whites Surf PI's have a pre set GB, But my TDI Pro has a Coarse GB Control know and a secondary fine control knob, and my TDI SL just has a single GB 1 to 10 GB Control know, My ML 3500 had an Auto GB with a fixed mode or a tracking mode,

The Whites TDI SL had to be modified for Australian conditions because they had a Hiccup problem,  But the Fix had a special bonus in that it allowed the TDI SL to see Gold that only an LF machine like the Whites GMT or the Fisher Gold Bug 2 could normally see,

This is the Hiccup sound.

Yours might be a dual mode detector because PI technology has ground balance in its theoretical design.

Yes being a manual type GB depending where you set the GB you can use it to change the point of where small targets become High Tone or low tone and Large Targets become high or low tone So it basically allows you to change the conductivity break point,

You can also pick Low Conductivity or High Conductivity or set it to All, and you can knock out junk depending on how you manipulate the GB setting or the pulse rate.
