Welcome from Arizona.

I moved your post over to this board since it is your first post.  That will give you an opportunity to get "greeted" by the membership.

As for the Patton camps, you can get some of what you are looking for online (Search for Desert Training Center or  California-Arizona Maneuver Area)   or visit the General Patton Memorial Museum (

) in Chiriaco Summit, California.    If you go to the General Patton Museum, I would recommend NOT telling them that you want to metal detect at the camps.   Some of the camps are rigorously protected against detecting and even in the areas that are not if the property is administered by the BLM, you will probably have ARPA laws thrown at you.    Fortunately, much of the area is under cultivation.   Those areas will be open to you if you get the land owners permission.

Good luck with the camps.  I enjoy detecting former military training areas and always have success.  You never know what you will find.   Many states have areas away from the actual bases that were used but finding them can be a challange.  Once you do you are in for many days of detecting.  If you are finding the old 30.06 blank brass you are in the right area.  Then look for the assembly areas or the camp sites.  I have made some great finds over the years at these sites.  One of the better finds, but unfortunately not mine was a really nice, restorable 1911 .45 pistol.  You could easily read all the markings.  No major pitting, just minor surface rust.  So anything can be found, well worth the research to identify the sites.
