You could say I was there. Just a grunt twenty years ago. I made a lot of friends with the workers like yourself. You guys were the best in a bad time.

There is some wadis to the west along the border, bad lands for sure and dont go alone.

You wont need a detector. Use your eyes, and take a gold pan for some dry panning. Also a 5 foot probe would be helpful. Dont try digging unless its soft, there is caliche 6 inches down, and I broke picks and shovels before I gave up.

Dont lay on the ground for any amount of time. I dont miss the biting flies, so if you see them, your close to something.

The extreme south below riayd was some military out there. Also bet theres some stuff around King Fauds Airport.

Not sure what your looking for, but make friends with the prince. Those guys open doors, and the most generous peoples you will ever meet. Dont ask or compliment on things, i believe that was bad manners. Try to learn the language and ways, you will go far.

Thanks for sharing Casca! I've been all over the kingdom for the last 25 years, I've seen it from the air, worked offshore for 6 months in exploration and worked onshore for 18 months. In one of our drilling sites in Dilam, at 700 ft. they pulled out the drill bit and guess what they found on the drill bit - PURE GOLD! That place was so thick with military and police all of a sudden it took them 30 minutes to take us out of the drill site, packed the rig & camp in 10 hours, on the 11th hour we were escorted out to our next drill site. I guess you're right about the biting flies. But with so many youths and locals without a job, venturing out there even just for curiosity's sake is not advisable. I'd just go back to the Philippines and explore wherever I feel safe. I have a friend who is a prince, unfortunately he is from Bahrain. I don't know how to pan, is it like screening gravel & sand?

Thanks for the advice AU! I'll try doing that with my camera next time around. I currently use a Sony Cybershot 10.2 mega pixels. Trouble is, everytime I get loaded on pictures, I download them to my laptop and delete everything from the camera. I hope Picasa can help downsize my pix. I'll work on it.

Hi Prince Solo,

Everything about gold hunting is hard as you make it. You could mail order a pan cheap. If you can do some diving, you may do better. plus if your allowed on the beaches, well detecting there would net you more gold than looking in the desert for a cache. I seen some red sands west in the desert off pipeline road, you may do well there if your looking for fine gold. Im not sure you would want to get any amount of gold, they have some funny laws over there. Right now there is a awful lot of plundering historical sites, not sure you want to get close to any of that. Good Luck

Hello Luc! I guess the events of WWI must make the life of a TH enthusiast like u very interesting. One question: how do you detect the difference in signal between iron and a buried bomb. Some enthusiasts like us lost their lives digging on a strong signal and eventually strike a bomb or a warhead either with a pick or a crowbar. I use a GTI 2500 with Eagle Eye Treasure Hound for greater depth capability. Our digs are in the vicinity of the biggest Japanese Imperial Army camp during the retreat of General Yamashita. Where there's a bomb and there are casualties from the dig, most TH enthusiasts would move away from that area. I think differently, my inner instinct tells me that bomb was used to protect treasure nearby so I scan again where people left. Am I doing the right thing or I'm inviting trouble?

I'll just stay away from it Casca. Here in the kingdom, you do something and the police thinks what you're doing is suspicious, you are jailed and convicted even before you are tried. No need to push our luck here.
