Howdy,

I'm a complete novice having purchased a cheapie $85 metal detector some years ago. As you can probably guess, I found every nail and scrap of aluminum in my yard but not much else. Now it just sits in my garage.

My sis gave me an old Sears Ted Williams detector a while back and I've been trying to bring it back to life. That's what led me here.

Not sure if I should spend anymore time or effort on getting this thing running. Hoping to get a few opinions from you guys.

If I can can get it running, I'll give metal detecting another try. Otherwise I'll probably hit you guys up for advice on a decent 'first' metal detector. Just not yet.

Best,

Ken

Hi Ken, and Welcome from Utah!
If you can afford it, you may want to start with something else. I started out with the Garrett Ace 350, but if money is an issue, maybe just start out if you can afford one the Ace 200. I've purchased all my detectors at a place called Kellyco. Here's the link for that Ace 200:

That's about $170. If that's still not within your budget you could maybe check out eBay, or some of the forums like here has used gear for sale. I don't know anything about that device you have sorry. Also, getting a pinpointer would really help too!

Welcome to the hobby!
