Your very welcome .....I think they do more fossicking as they call it than MD ...I'll be sure to buzz their ear about any recent gold finds around where they live. Just never know Huh? Just learning some Aussie slang . Sometimes some of the  words I use can mean a whole different thing where you live in AU. G-day ...

I was in a news agents and a woman walked in and asked for a roll of Durex Shocked my eyes open wide and i dare not look round
and i thought bugger me she's a shy girl, they come on a roll, Struth, Are all sheillas this open, in the end i just had to look .
and Durex is a roll of sticky Tape or as it is called here selotape.
So i know how a person can get in to trouble with different meanings.

I can relate to how the earth has changed and time has passed over the years . I love Google Earth to see the variant changes over the landscapes. GE showed some wet areas or springs where I know it was dry on surface. I have studied a bit of GE to find old wagon trails or trails from by gone days. Some features just show up different when you do the timeline and diff months in the same place. I think that'll help in determining where settlements or foundations use to be. By no means an expert........but it's fascinating stuff.

Hello 1860 Treasure and  Welcome from upstate NY
You found a good place to hang out at and wait for the thaw.Still have spots of snow in back yard and the ground is still for the most frozen the first 3 inches down.  Thumbs Down
A little bird tells me that the capital area is going to get some HEAVY,WET snow starting tonight. "8-12" is what they are calling for..... No no!
Good luck with everything.

Hello shootin4coal-------I know your suppose to get some snow in your region. Were just getting a side burn from the storm. We put up with enough lake effect to last the whole summer. I'm dead in the middle.....straight off the Lake here. Once had to get my buddies Dozer to clear my driveway...and that's sad to say........... Cry enough snow talk...watching it fall as I write...darn it all,,,,,,
Just have to ask if the ground temp has a lot to do with finding things ?? If a metal object is heated from the sun ? does it detect better ? or you just won't find things deeper ? I thought I'd ask becouse it seemed like I was picking up Rocks ?? Right in the middle of a swampy area....detected and unearthed a huge rock...nothing else to speak of. Looked to be of granite of sorts...no iron deposits that you would normally see on some rocks. Do you suppose it was just the heat from the rock ? After that I checked a few around the area and it detected them also....small or large 3 foot round boulders. I did end up pulling out a whole rear end to a buggy of sorts from the swamp. Solid axle with a bunch of small springs under it.

Thanks much... Steveo

Well I'm not sure about your ground temp.question.I guess I never thought about that. But I'm sure someone on here can answer that question for you, lots of knowledgeable peeps here.
All I know is that if I can't push my probe in the ground then I'm not even going to attempt to search that area till thaw....
I guess it's confirmed now,the snow has passed by you and is tracking my way... No no!

Good luck with your question....
Talk to ya later   Waveing
